Scouts in Peril

The liberals and gays are at it again.(see footnote)  In the city of Philadelphia, Pa., (The Cradle of Liberty) the city council is trying to evict the local Council of the Boy Scouts of America from a building they themselves built 80 years ago.  The scouts pay a nominal $1.00 per year  on a hundred year lease.  They have twenty years left on the lease.  But this apparently means nothing to the City Council because they are determined to hike the rent to $200.00.00!  The liberals on the City Council claim that the scouts cannot occupy the building if the lease doesn't have a nondiscrimination clause and since the scouts will not allow gay scout leaders, they claim a legal right to evict the scouts.  It always amazes me to see just how intolerant these hypocritical hucksters of tolerance really are.

I am a former Boy Scout from the 1950's era.  Anyone who would deny the Scouts the chance to positively influence young boys in their community needs to have their head examined.  But, then again, these are the same morons who embraced Midnight Basketball as a solution to their growing gang problems.  The Boy Scouts of America is not a charity organization that sucks money from donors and never gives in return.  The BSA enhances civilization and teaches leadership skills to youngsters, not only on the local level, but on a world-wide scale.  My wonderful experiences with the Boy Scouts of America, and later the Explorer Scouts (for older boys and young men) were and are invaluable to me.   The skills I learned in the BSA gave me the ability to not only survive in extremely difficult conditions but showed me how to help others.  I was able to teach others common sense things like map reading, cooking, finding edible foods, and building shelters.  The BSA taught me first-aid, and yes, I even learned how to sew buttons and darn socks.  I was taught to have a healthy respect and deep regard for our country and, by example, the value of friendship.  Thanks to the Scouts I learned the importance of teamwork.  We had Jews, Buddhists, Catholics, Protestants and doubters in our troop.  We worked and played as one unit and as a result won many ribbons and badges.  All these learned skills made me a natural leader in the military. (I know liberals hate that)

Liberals have succeeded by incremental steps to infiltrate government from the grass roots on up.  They only need to invoke some imagined "rights" to make the conservatives dance to their tune.  I want to see somewhere in our Bill of Rights where it says a person's sexual preferences shall be a determining factor in social policies.  It is frightening to see how powerful socialism has become in this country.  The Rule of Law does not apply to these people.  They will do whatever it takes by any means necessary to carry out their agenda.  To wit:  Their attempt to disrupt and overturn the election of GW Bush in favor of Al Gore.  The Constitution is treated as if it were yesterday's old newspaper, and is irrelevant in this liberal vision of Utopia.   Popular notions and ideas and current ideologies  will dictate how we will live in the future.  I can only wonder when their 'Little Red Book' will be published as required reading, first in the public schools, then for the general population.

We are truly entering the new Dark Ages and America had better wake up now before we are totally engulfed in darkness.

Latch-Key Kids

Latch-key kids.  Mothers who have to leave their children alone in their home so they can go work long hours to feed, clothe and house them.  I think it is sad that children must fend for themselves, but not everyone is blessed with a two-parent home, or has parents that had the foresight to wait to  have children until they could afford them.  I know it isn't the children's fault that society has taken a turn for the worse in the past 50 years. Lax moral values and a casual "so what" attitude toward sex and mariage that utterly disregards the consequences of unplanned and unwanted children are the main causes of this problem.

Not all latch-key kids are the product of a cavelier attitude toward life and poor planning, some are due to a dibilitating illness or death of the main breadwinner. Most of these unfortunate people, however, will go through a short readjustment period, then get on with their lives.  There are plenty of social welfare programs and in most cases, family who will step up to the plate and get these folks over the rough-spots.

The problem isn't that there aren't any government programs to help, it's that there are too many.  The redundancy in these programs is scandalous.  There are also several local city and church groups who are willing to assist in many ways.

The self-induced latch-key problem has grown to epidemic proportions and is a fact of life that we cannot ignore, yet, people continue to have children they cannot take care of.  What can be done about that?  Isn't that the problem that needs solving?

Realizing that the children come first is noble and fine, but making it easier for carefree single moms to have more children, and spending tax monies to care for those children, certainly isn't the answer. As long as we avoid the real problem, that of educating young people of the consequences of casual sex, and taking marriage vows seriously, the latch-key problem will continue to grow and to plague society.

Children, left to their own devices will usually find a way to find trouble.  Statistics show that these are the children who are most likely to get involved in crime, drugs, early sex, and, as a result, develop serious health problems.  Too many of them end up as wards of the state and/or in prison at an early age.

Aside from all that, leaving children alone and unsupervised on the internet, in this time of increased sexual predation, is tantamount to letting them play with a loaded gun.

As long as we encourage people to take on the mantle of victimhood, and lead them to believe that it is the government's job to step in and take over, the problem will not only remain with us, it will continue to grow exponentialy.

To blame this on the economy and on Capitalist cold-heartedness is to shift the responsibility away from those who put themselves in this situation in the first place.  Besides, the more money earned, the more money the government takes away to pay for social service programs.  It's a vicious cycle that feeds on itself.

The answer is education and our children are not receiving it.  They have been criminally neglected by the public school system for far too long.

WGA Strike

In today's column by Burt Prelutsky, he lamented the strike by his Writer's Guild.  What I got from the article is the only people the strike is  hurting are the people who are striking.    I believe that the days of the Robber Barons are over.  People are no longer forced to work in sweatshops for unlivable wages.  If these conditions do exist, it is because they are illegal and will eventually be discovered and prosecuted.

Unions, in my opinion, have outlived their purpose.  They are nothing but money making machines for the union bosses.  They have helped to kill the American manufacturing industry.  Their close allies are  the liberal politicians whose confiscatory tax policies along with the ridiculous demands of the unions have driven most factories off-shore in a desperate effort to stay profitable.

The only thing good to come out of this strike (according to Burt Prelutsky) is the fact that the public now knows that those multi-million dollar talking heads like Leno and Letterman do not write their own monologues, and every minute of their shows are scripted by members of the WGA.

I sympathize with the GA and their strike to some extent.  They never have gotten the credit for the success of the likes of Reno and Letterman, the MSM news shows, the sit-coms,  and  crime/punishment shows.  The reruns are not going to affect me in any way since I never watch that stuff.  What I have noticed while channel surfing is that there are lot more good movies on those channels now.  Also, I have noticed  that the mainstream  news media hasn't missed a beat.  The people who are on strike used to write for these shows.  The monkeys they use as news readers and anchors are not capable of writing their own material.   Someone is writing their stuff.   Has anyone asked ABC, NBC, CBS, CNN, MSNBC, and FOX  who is scabbing the WGA?

Meanwhile, the Teamsters are trying everything they can think of to unionize the largest employer in America, Wallmart.  The employees of Wallmart have shut them down at every attempt.  The unions are licking their chops at the thought of all that dues money and in an effort to unionize them, we often hear hit pieces against Wallmart originated by their liberal allies, the media.  Wallmart epitomizes the capitalist economy of America which is why liberals despise them.

Personally, I would like to see unions abolished and have a system set up by which employees could utilize the Judicial system to settle workers issues with management.  The only problem with that is the Judicial system is laced  with over-zealous, liberal activist judges who have the power to do irreparable damage to business.   Maybe a system of non-biased citizens could mediate for them.  Oh, wait, the average American citizen is woefully under-educated  and couldn't mediate a kindergarten dispute.  So for now, the Teamsters have an ever-weakening hold on management, while more and more employees are experiencing more sympathetic, benevolent employers, and the economy is none the worse.  So all is well with the world.  For now.
